Order Sons of Italy in America was founded in 1905 in New York's Little Italy by an Italian immigrant, Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro, and five compatriots; pharmacist Ludovico Ferrari, attorney Antonio Marzullo, sculptor Giuseppe Carlino and barbers Pietro Viscardi and Robert Merlo. They created the organization to unite men and women of Italian heritage under one banner in order to preserve and disseminate the large cultural heritage of Italy.
Loggia Uguaglianza # 83 was established on Arthur Avenue, Bronx, New York, in 1911 the same year as the Grand Lodge of New York. In the early years, the Lodge enjoyed a long list of well known Italian American labor and political leaders - Antonini, Molisani, La Guardia, Procaccino, Satriale; today it is comprised of attorneys, realtors, businessmen and retirees.
Originally chartered as a "men's" lodge in 1911, today Uguaglianza is coed.
The Lodge works to provide a community in which both men and women of Italian descent may preserve and nurture their Italian heritage. We continue to thrive in meeting the initial objectives of its founders through a wide variety of social, community, cultural, charitable, educational, patriotic and civic activities.
We hold monthly meetings and events. Anyone interested in learning more about our lodge or in joining then please email us for information at: info@uguaglianza83.org
